About The Position

If you are a Surgical Technician who has current Operating Room experience, we invite you to consider a career with The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital at UAMS Health. The Surgical Technician will assemble supplies for surgical procedures, set up and maintain the sterile field, pass surgical instruments, and assist in room preparation. This professional nursing role will require the ability to coordinate care for the needs of the surgical case, the surgeon, nurses, and other members of the team to provide an optimal outcome for the patient and work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff. Requires the ability to effectively communicate.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an NBSTSA-accredited Surgical Technology program OR NCCT-approved Surgical Technology program OR Completed military surgical/scrub tech training OR Have two or more years of on-the-job surgical/scrub experience in an acute care facility or ambulatory surgery center
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Operating room experience (preferred in Orthopedics)
  • Scrub Tech Certification
  • Orthopedic experience

Responsibilities

  • Ensures availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies and equipment for assigned cases.
  • Ensures that the room has been prepared for the upcoming cases, with appropriate equipment available and ready for surgical use.
  • Ensures that the instruments are cleaned arranged and transported to the soiled workroom according to department policy; independently assists with instrument reprocessing tasks when assigned cases are completed and time permits.
  • Ensures that the operating rooms are case-ready for the following day’s cases.
  • Exhibits practical knowledge of OR equipment including maintenance and safety aspects.
  • Utilizes available communication tools; demonstrates teamwork by offering assistance to other team members.
  • Shares knowledge information and expertise with other staff; attends departmental in-services and other educational offerings.
  • Consistently demonstrates new knowledge and skills through incorporation into actual clinical practice.
  • Willing to learn new techniques.
  • With any other duties assigned
