About The Position

This job is responsible for preparing and passing instruments and equipment for assigned surgical procedures in accordance with hospital and department standards. It also involves carrying out identified patient care needs delegated by an RN, physician, or director/manager/supervisor. The role is expected to meet applicable OneCHRISTUS competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
BLS required.

Nice To Haves

Two or more years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain the sterile field; pass instruments and suture to the physician; and assist as directed by the physician.
Use the physician preference card as a starting point when pulling cases and setting up the OR.
Keep preference cards up to date and as complete as possible.
Work effectively as a member of the patient-care team and cooperate in team planning and execution.
Maintain a safe environment by following technical and aseptic practices at all times.
Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Follow Universal Barrier Precautions for patient and personal safety in all patient-care situations.
Monitor and control the surgical environment competently.
Maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and compliance with OR sanitation policies and procedures.
Follow facility policy and procedures for decontamination, processing, and sterilization of instruments and supplies processed within the facility.
Perform assigned patient-care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
Adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to each patient's physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
