This role is responsible for delivering safe patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse and according to facility policy and procedure. The Surgical Technician prepares for scheduled future cases by obtaining necessary supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, and assisting the surgical team. They maintain sterile technique, handle specimens, perform counts, and participate in procedural checks. The position also involves assisting with cleaning and preparing instruments and the operating room for subsequent patients, ensuring a safe environment for all. Key responsibilities include preparing the sterile field with instruments, supplies, and medications, assisting with draping, passing instruments to the surgeon, and preparing sterile dressings. The technician also assists with housekeeping tasks and sterile processing as needed, and cleans instruments for terminal sterilization. They participate in terminal cleaning of the room and prepping the room for the next patient. Proper handling of specimens and performing counts with the circulator are also crucial aspects of the role. The technician must demonstrate current competencies and adhere to hospital policies for procedural checks, time outs, and surgical site identification.
