About The Position

Sovah Martinsville is seeking a full-time Surgical Tech II to facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the surgical suite with necessary drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring all equipment and instruments are in good working order. The Surgical Tech II will assist with patient preparation, transportation, positioning, and draping, as well as passing instruments to the physician during surgery. A key responsibility includes continually accounting for the number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery and receiving and processing specimens for laboratory delivery.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and accountability to perform delegated aspects of the nursing process.
  • Requires the cognitive ability and practical ability to provide nursing care appropriate to the patient population assigned, considering patient age and diagnosis, with full implementation of the nursing process to include Assessment/Reassessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation.
  • Requires a full range of motion, including handling and lifting patients and/or equipment, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for an extensive period of time.
  • May require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • May require frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to the normal range.
  • Requires the ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
  • Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Certification as a Surgical Tech required; must be licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Tech.
  • Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
  • Requirements will include successful completion of the orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of the specific unit.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
  • Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients.
  • Passes instruments to the physician during surgery.
  • Continually accounts for the number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
  • Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
