About The Position

Summit Medical Center is looking for Surgical Technicians to join their Quality Care Team at their Edmond hospital. The position works Monday - Friday. The Surgical Technician provides direct and indirect services to the surgical patient under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs tasks necessary for the efficient and effective functioning of the operating room, as well as the delivery of quality of care. The staffing of Summit Medical Center is based on a teamwork concept, where employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change. The role involves maintaining established center/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. It also includes maintaining department records, reports, and files, caring for department equipment and supplies, and participating in educational programs and in-service meetings. The Surgical Tech must maintain confidentiality of patient and center-related business, develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, visitors, and other center employees, and document concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy. Participation in Quality Assessment activities for the continuous improvement of patient care and the Center's business is also required. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology
  • Minimum 1 year experience
  • Care and handling of surgical instruments.
  • CPR
  • Aseptic technique
  • Principles of Standard Precautions
  • Principles of decontamination and sterilization
  • Ability to function as a member of the surgical team.
  • Ability to perform tasks of a scrub technician efficiently.
  • Compliance with the attendance policy.
  • Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs.
  • Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes.
  • Ability to read and write (legibly)
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively.
  • Ability to understand and resolve simple to complex problems.
  • Ability to understand simple to complex instructions.
  • Ability to constantly walk, stand, and/or lift.
  • Ability to frequently utilize full range of motion, including crouching, stooping, reaching, bending, and twisting.
  • Ability to frequently lift, pull, push with assistance of one other person, the weight of the average patient.
  • Ability to see and hear and distinguish color.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to function independently without constant supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified in surgical technology preferred (CST or CORT)

Responsibilities

  • Performs necessary tasks for a scrub role using technical skills.
  • Assures patient/personal safety by maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Ensures proper instrumentation for each procedure.
  • Follows all principles of sterile technique.
  • Participates in all counts (instrument, sponge sharps, etc.) as necessary.
  • Assists with maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
  • Maintains and cares for department equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and center-related business.
  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, and other center employees.
  • Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.
  • Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and the Center's business.
