About The Position

The Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has an opening for a PRN Surgical First Assistant Tech at UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital. This role involves direct patient care in Perioperative, PACU, or Operating Room settings. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, equipment, and patient for surgery, maintaining a sterile field, assisting the surgeon with instruments and surgical tasks, controlling bleeding, assisting with suturing and wound closure, positioning the patient, applying dressings, assisting with patient transfer, ensuring accurate counts of instruments and supplies, and documenting involvement and supporting post-operative care. The position is PRN (0.0 FTE) and requires onsite work in Highlands Ranch, CO.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
  • Surgical Technologist program
  • Certified as a one of the following: Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) by NBSTSA; Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) by NSAA; Surgical Assistant–Certified (SA-C) by ABSA.
  • State Surgical Assistant or Surgical Technologist registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating room, equipment, and patient for surgery
  • Maintain sterile field and follow safety protocols
  • Assist surgeon by handling instruments and anticipating needs
  • Provide visibility of surgical site (retracting, suctioning, sponging)
  • Control bleeding and assist with suturing and wound closure
  • Positions patient using stabilizing equipment to give best exposure for surgical procedure while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Apply dressings and assist with patient transfer after surgery
  • Ensure accurate counts of instruments and supplies
  • Document involvement and support post-operative care
