About The Position

Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse, the Surgical Tech is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room. This role requires maintaining knowledge and practice of aseptic technique, preparing sterile fields, anticipating the needs of the surgeon during procedures, and ensuring proper care of instruments and supplies. The Surgical Tech also plays a role in maintaining equipment, supplies, and environmental safety, staying updated on current surgical trends, and functioning as a preceptor for new associates and students.

Requirements

Certified Surgical Tech
Current BLS certification
Formal Aseptic Technique Training
Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail.
Excellent verbal and communication skills.

Previous surgical tech experience preferred

Responsibilities

Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique.
Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures.
Prepares sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available for use.
Anticipation of needs for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies during surgical procedures.
Functions as assistant, when needed, during surgical procedures.
Obtains counts with circulating nurse during surgical procedures.
Cares for specimens according to procedure.
Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished.
Maintains equipment, supplies and environmental safety.
Maintains knowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.
Maintains standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc.
Functions as preceptor to new associates and students.
