About The Position

This position demonstrates a clear understanding of sterile techniques and maintains a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of special procedures. The role is based at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC), an 808-bed acute-care facility and the only Level I Trauma Center in Central Florida, recognized for its patient care, safety, and nursing excellence. ORMC is part of the larger Orlando Health system, which includes various healthcare facilities across Florida, Central Alabama, and Puerto Rico. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of: Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health Training Program; or An accredited physician assistant program
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews preferences and verifies the case cart thoroughly before the procedure.
  • Maintains an orderly surgical field and consistently passes instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
  • Anticipates and prioritizes the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
  • Takes part in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
  • Maintains surgical specimens in a manner that identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
  • Assists in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
