Surgical Tech Job Code: SS5587 PRN 3 shifts per 6-week schedule 0700-1730 and one call shift as needed. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology program.
  • Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Technologist in accordance with Virginia Code §54.1-2956.12.
  • Must hold and maintain a national surgical technologist certification (e.g., NBSTSA CST) or meet another Virginia Board-approved pathway (military training, DOL-registered apprenticeship, or applicable grandfathering criteria).
  • Must provide proof of compliance prior to hire and maintain active registration throughout employment.
  • Ability to create and maintain a sterile field.
  • Knowledge of specialized instrumentation and equipment for various surgical procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure materials.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Computer skills.
  • Constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
  • May require the use of safety equipment, such as HEPA mask, for infection prevention.
  • Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
  • Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician' performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to identify and resolve unit issues.
  • Keeps co-workers and intra-op staff informed of any updates/issues.
  • Follows written instructions as needed.
  • Collects, organizes, and enters information into the patient scheduling application.
  • Assists with various types of surgical operations providing technically skilled duties, serving as first assist.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and sterile/aseptic technique.
  • The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
  • On call responsibilities as directed.
