The Surgical Tech OR administers direct patient care and functions as a healthcare team member, performs skills and procedures under the direction of a registered nurse. Surgical Services includes procedures related to inpatient and outpatient surgery and endoscopy. Promotes the Medical Center's customer service philosophy. Participates in the shared-governance process and patient safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Tech Program.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one year of experience in a surgical setting.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Performs prescribed treatments according to established policies and procedures.
  • Provides competent monitoring, treatment, and/or care to patients appropriate for the individual, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs of the patients served.
  • Follows established policies and procedures for administration and documentation of medications.
  • Informs registered nurse and/or nurse manager of patient's status, observes and reports symptoms, including any unexpected occurrence during operative procedures as appropriate.
  • Interacts with patients, families' physicians and other health care team members using the principles of Pride in Caring.
  • Operates equipment safely: Prepares and cares for equipment, returns supplies as necessary. Correctly labels and reports broken equipment.
  • Intervenes with proper technique and utilizes procedures and safety precautions to maintain patient and personal safety in the environment of care.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic and sterile technique and principles of isolation according to policy and procedure.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
