Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital represents Orlando Health’s continued commitment to the Seminole County community, which we have proudly served for 40 years. As a comprehensive acute care facility, the hospital offers a full scope of medical and surgical services, including cardiovascular, general surgery, orthopedics, and women’s services with labor and delivery, alongside a future NICU. Opening with 124 beds, the 455,000 square foot hospital will be able to expand to up to 240 beds. State-of-the-art facilities include operating rooms, catheterization labs, interventional radiology, a vascular lab, an ICU and a full-service emergency department. For labor and delivery, the hospital features six private suites thoughtfully designed to make you feel at home while providing exceptional medical care. Each suite includes a hydrotherapy tub for laboring, shower, recliner, adjustable bed with a squat bar, wireless and waterproof heart rate monitors for mom and baby, a smart board that integrates patient and nurse information from Epic, WiFi, and televisions. Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of: Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Four (4) year surgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
  • Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
  • Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure.
  • Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
  • Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines.
  • In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
  • Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least 2 surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
  • Prepares and conducts technical performance-oriented training related to specialty service.
  • Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and /or second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
  • Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
  • In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • When directed by clinical specialist, inventories and orders specialty instruments, supplies unique to specialty.
  • Participates in the clinical orientation of SPD staff, serving as a role model and technical resource.
  • Dependable and reliable in performance of Surgical Tech I and II duties.
  • Performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective participates in departmental performance improvement activities, meets education and certification requirements, upholds Orlando Health philosophy and objectives, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
