About The Position

Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the team providing surgical care to patients. They work under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and a surgeon to facilitate surgical procedures, ensuring a safe operating room environment, proper equipment function, and patient safety. The surgical technologist handles instruments, supplies, and equipment, understands the procedure, and anticipates the surgeon's needs. They are constantly vigilant in maintaining the sterile field and can function independently in the scrub role, as well as a circulator under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program (CST)
  • NYS LPN also acceptable

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 3 years of scrubbing experience preferred
  • Familiar with all specialty services preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain sterile field
  • Prepare operating rooms and assists with patient positioning as needed
  • Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening, maintains sterility while scrubbed, maintains sterility of instruments and supplies
  • Performance of accurate instrument, sponge and needle counts, following established policies and procedures
  • Function independently in the scrub role
  • Function as a circulator under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse
