About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Surgical Tech II to join their Orthopedic team at the Belle Meade location. This role involves assisting physicians and nursing staff before, during, and after surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile field and providing necessary instruments and supplies. The Surgical Tech II will perform competently in most cases within a given service or shift. Vanderbilt Health Belle Meade is an outpatient facility offering a range of services across multiple specialties, designed for convenient, state-of-the-art care. The facility includes operating rooms, exam rooms, infusion stations, and imaging capabilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during military service.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Certification from NBSTSA (CST) or NCCT (TS-C). Exception: If a graduate of a surgical technologist armed forces training program, no certification is required.
  • Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Novice): Knowledge of specific equipment, its performance criteria, capabilities, and limitations. Able to use equipment for basic tasks. May conduct remedial and preventive maintenance.
  • Procedures Knowledge (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience, training, or exposure to procedures knowledge.
  • Operating Room Care (Novice): Sufficient fundamental proficiency to demonstrate operating room care in practical applications of moderate difficulty, generally under direction.
  • Environmental Sterility & Safety (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience, training, or exposure to environmental sterility and safety.
  • Inventory Management (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience, training, or exposure to Inventory Management. Understands concepts and principles. Familiar with tools, processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Surgical Technology (Novice): Sufficient fundamental proficiency to demonstrate surgical technology in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Equipment Maintenance (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience, training, or exposure to maintenance activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in Ortho cases.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates patient care by assisting the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Plans, sets up, performs, and cleans up the assigned surgical procedure as a circulator and as a scrub tech.
  • Performs sharp, sponge, and instrument counts according to policy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to apply the Principles of Asepsis in creating and maintaining the sterile field.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
