Surgical Tech I: South Clinical OR -40hrs/week, DAYS
About The Position
Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the team providing surgical care to patients. They work under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and a surgeon to facilitate surgical procedures, ensuring a safe operating room environment, proper equipment function, and patient safety. The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures, understands the procedure, anticipates the surgeon's needs, and maintains constant vigilance over the sterile field. This role requires the ability to function independently in the scrub role and as a circulator under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. The position may also require on-call duties and rotating shifts.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
- CST - Certified Surgical Technologist Upon Hire - required
- LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure Upon Hire - required
Nice To Haves
- 1-3 years of scrubbing experience - preferred
- Familiar with all specialty services - preferred
Responsibilities
- Maintain sterile field
- Prepare operating rooms and assist with patient positioning as needed
- Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening
- Maintain sterility while scrubbed
- Maintain sterility of instruments and supplies
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts, following established policies and procedures
- Facilitate surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that patient safety is maintained
- Handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure
- Understand the procedure and anticipate the need of the surgeon
- Be constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field
- Function independently in the scrub role
- Function as a circulator under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse
