About The Position

Dignity Health - French Hospital Medical Center, established in 1946, is a 112-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in San Luis Obispo, California. As a Surgical Tech, the role involves preparing the operating room and surgical team for various procedures, setting up surgical equipment and instruments, assisting the surgical team, and ensuring a sterile environment. The position requires adaptability, a strong team-player mindset, and enthusiasm for supporting complex surgical procedures, directly contributing to the patient's healing process.

Responsibilities

  • Help prepare the operating room and surgical team so they can successfully perform a variety of surgical procedures for patients
  • Set up surgical equipment and instruments
  • Assist the surgical team
  • Ensure a sterile environment
  • Adapt quickly
  • Collaborate effectively within the OR team
  • Contribute directly to the patient's healing process
  • Demonstrates basic skills in operating room technology and basic knowledge of surgical procedures (as described in the Core Competencies and unit skills checklists)
  • Consistently demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique according to AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice, French Hospital policy and procedures and the guidelines described in Universal Precautions
  • Handles blood and tissue specimens accurately and in a timely manner
  • Consistently demonstrates proper care and handling of instruments and equipment according to AAMI/ANSI Standards
  • Facilitates movement of surgery schedule through timely room turnover, communicating with appropriate persons for case progress and delays, through consistent and accurate anticipation of team needs
  • Identifies and responds to urgent/emergent situations in a calm and efficient manner
  • Consistently accepts assistance and direction, demonstrating sound judgement during emergency situations
