About The Position

This position involves assisting surgeons and registered nurses by performing routine, technical, and related duties during surgical operations. The role requires providing safe and competent care to patients across various age groups and effectively managing patients with diverse physical and emotional disabilities. Key responsibilities include the daily cleaning and processing of equipment, ensuring efficient between-case turnover through removal, cleaning, and decontamination of used equipment, and guaranteeing clean equipment for each procedure. The Surgical Tech will also serve as a resource person for an assigned specialty, managing tray inventory, maintaining specialty instruments, handling supplies, and processing instrument orders and physician requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal accredited Surgical Technology Program or military training.
  • Certification is required through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team and staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Ability to set priorities, effectively solve problems, and respond quickly to emergency requests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and assist in meeting the care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years experience preferred or completion of a formal internship through an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
  • CST and member of the Association of Surgical Technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons and registered nurses by performing routine, technical, and related duties during surgical operations.
  • Provide safe and competent care to all patients in a variety of age groups and function effectively with a variety of patient physical and emotional disabilities.
  • Be responsible for the daily cleaning and processing of equipment.
  • Provide for the between case turnover by removing, cleaning, and decontamination of equipment used by the team.
  • Ensure clean equipment for each procedure.
  • Be the resource person for assigned specialty including, but not limited to, tray inventory, maintenance of specialty instruments, supplies, ordering of instruments and MD requests.
  • Assist during basic robotic surgery cases only after completing the competency assessment for Robotic surgery (if certified surgical technologist).
