About The Position

IU Saxony Hospital, located adjacent to Hamilton Town Center, is seeking dynamic individuals to join their surgical team. The hospital features six operating rooms specializing in General Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pain Management, Plastics, Podiatry, and Urology. The Surgical Skilled Technologist will provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures, ensuring the operating room is properly equipped and assisting the surgical team as needed. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, assisting surgeons, and managing specimens, equipment, and supplies post-procedure. This role is integral to the surgical team, working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to deliver unparalleled patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Ability to resource advanced technology
  • Knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment
  • Knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation
  • Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field

Nice To Haves

  • 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law

Responsibilities

  • Provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies, and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation.
  • Assist the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards.
  • Assist in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure, ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
  • Work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
