About The Position

Veterinary Surgical Centers is looking for a Surgical Scrub Technician to join their surgery team. This is a critical role in the operating room, responsible for the preparation, sterilization, and organization of all surgical instruments and equipment. The technician will work closely with the surgical team in a fast-paced, high-standard environment where attention to detail and a commitment to sterility directly impact patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience in a veterinary or human surgical environment required.
  • Prior experience with surgical instrument processing, sterilization, and pack preparation strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with veterinary surgical instruments and implants preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of sterile technique, aseptic principles, and infection control.
  • Experience operating autoclave and sterilization equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently and remain composed in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods during a minimum 8-hour shift.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, inspect, and maintain all surgical instruments after each use.
  • Assemble instrument sets according to established pack lists and surgeon preferences.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly cared for, stored, and ready for the next procedure.
  • Wrap, package, label, and sterilize all surgical instrument packs according to hospital protocol.
  • Operate autoclave and sterilization equipment.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization logs including biological and chemical indicator results.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of surgical instruments, implants, consumables, and supplies.
  • Monitor stock levels, process incoming orders, and communicate needs to hospital leadership to ensure surgical scheduling is never impacted by supply gaps.
  • Set up instrument tables and sterile fields prior to procedures.
  • Support room turnover between cases.
  • Assist with proper disposal of sharps and biohazardous waste.
  • Help maintain a clean, efficient, and safe operating environment throughout the day.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records, implant logs, and equipment maintenance documentation in accordance with DEA, OSHA, and hospital infection control protocols.
