About The Position

This role is responsible for executing high-volume surgical scheduling within the Operating Room. The Surgical Scheduler will coordinate, book, and manage the master operating room surgical schedule, ensuring optimal OR block utilization and procedural alignment. This includes reviewing, verifying, and translating intricate physician surgical orders, procedure codes, and specialized pediatric medical terminology into accurate EHR schedule entries. The role requires the ability to rapidly adapt to dynamic, fast-moving Level I Trauma and emergency add-ons, urgent procedure requests, cancellations, and real-time OR schedule restructuring. The Surgical Scheduler will also drive cross-functional communication with surgeon offices, surgical leadership, anesthesia teams, and nursing staff to resolve discrepancies. A key responsibility is to audit all incoming surgical case requests for completeness, ensuring accurate patient demographics, procedure details, special equipment needs, and required documentation before finalized entry. The position demands the ability to balance competing operational priorities, urgent phone queues, and continuous schedule modifications with speed, poise, and high precision.

Requirements

  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • Proven experience in medical/surgical scheduling with a strong, fluent understanding of surgical procedures, medical terminology, and OR workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately decipher, interpret, and process complex physician surgical orders and procedural documentation.
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize fluid workloads, problem-solve independently, and maintain absolute accuracy under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with a professional demeanor when managing high-stakes calls with surgical teams and clinic staff.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of direct surgical scheduling experience within an Operating Room (OR), acute hospital setting, or Level I Trauma Center (strongly preferred).
