About The Position

The Surgical Navigator Medical Assistant coordinates the full continuum of care for patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role ensures a seamless, patient-centered experience from initial surgical consultation through post-operative recovery. Serving as a central point of contact for patients, providers, and interdisciplinary teams, the Surgical Navigator MA facilitates timely access to care, promotes surgical readiness, and supports optimal clinical outcomes while aligning with Marshall’s standards for quality, safety, and patient experience.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Minimum two (2) years in clinic, surgical services, or care coordination required.
  • Previous experience with injections, EKG’s, medication administration and/or taking vital signs required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient/family health education required.
  • Basic computer/data entry and electronic medical record (EMR) experience required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to reprioritize work demands as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Excels in verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
  • Possesses a pleasant and friendly demeanor and ability to maintain a positive and team-oriented attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in care coordination, navigation, or population health preferred.
  • Familiarity with pre-operative clearances workflows and post-acute coordination preferred.
  • Proficiency in EPIC preferred.

  • Comfortable with regularly verifying and processing insurance eligibility and obtaining authorization requests, including verifying personal credentials with external partners to obtain this information (e.g., ID.me for identity verification for VA insurance coordination).
