Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to various surgical centers in Maryland.
  • Ability to lift at least 15 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods (e.g., an hour at a time).
  • Ability to use a step stool.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to the exam/procedure room and assist with walking as needed.
  • Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Prepare paperwork for the patient’s current visit and ensure complete and accurate documentation within the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Complete pre-operative intake, explain surgical procedures, and answer patient questions within scope.
  • Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with all necessary supplies.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
  • Drape and disinfect the surgical site, administer local anesthesia injections, and use a handheld cautery device for hemostasis.
  • Assist the physician during procedures by passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, etc.
  • Bandage surgical sites, prepare discharge paperwork, review wound care instructions with patients, and address any questions or concerns.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization in an autoclave.
  • Collect and accurately process specimens, preparing them for pathology and lab, and routing them to the correct lab based on patient insurance.
  • Maintain an accurate pathology log.
  • Remove sutures.
  • Notify patients of pathology and lab results.
  • Respond to patient questions in the office and on the phone as instructed.
  • Schedule or reschedule appointments with providers and specialists, sending appropriate records as necessary.
  • Maintain medication samples, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
  • Maintain infection control and cleanliness of exam rooms, and keep supply cabinets well stocked.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients.
  • Travel required to the following offices: Hagerstown, MD; Westminster, MD; Havre de Grace, MD; Glen Burnie, MD.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
