About The Position
MPOWERHealth is seeking a skilled 1099 Surgical First Assist to support surgical care in Reading, Pennsylvania. The role involves providing expert assistance to surgeons throughout procedures and helping deliver excellent patient care and successful surgical outcomes. The Surgical First Assist supports pre-operative coordination, intraoperative care, post-operative handoffs and documentation, and clinical improvement initiatives. The position involves work in Orthopedics, Spine, GYN, and other surgical specialties, with opportunities to learn additional specialties.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of surgical assisting experience.
- Experience assisting in Spine, GYN, and Orthopedics.
- PA or NP credential.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assist program.
- Current state license for the state in which practicing.
- Excellent computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EMR).

Responsibilities
- Provide expert support to the surgeon throughout procedures and help ensure smooth operating-room operations.
- Confirm cases, connect with patients, explain procedures, and coordinate details with the surgical team before procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning, maintain a sterile field, anticipate the surgeon’s needs, and collaborate with the operating-room team.
- Assist with safe patient transfer, provide detailed PACU handoffs, and complete accurate, timely documentation after procedures.
- Contribute to training, education, and process-improvement initiatives to enhance clinical and operational performance.
- Learn new surgical specialties and continuously develop clinical skills.
