About The Position

The Oral Surgery Assistant will provide assistance to oral maxillofacial surgeons within the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. Duties will include assisting in routine and advanced oral surgery procedures as directed by the oral surgeon. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, patient preparation and positioning; clinical area preparation; oral surgery assisting; the use, maintenance, distribution of surgical equipment, instruments and supplies; and the collection and maintenance of patient data and records. Our practice focuses heavily on advanced implant dentistry and full-arch restoration procedures, including AOX (All-on-X) implant surgeries. Experience with dental implants, IV sedation, extractions, bone grafting, or full arch cases is highly preferred, though we are willing to train the right candidate with a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.

Requirements

  • Radiography certification required.
  • Sound knowledge of how to use surgical equipment, instruments, and materials.
  • A good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.
  • An excellent understanding of dental records, charts, and documentation.
  • Great organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
  • Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
  • A willingness to learn and grow within a surgical implant-focused practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Oral and maxillofacial surgery assistant certification preferred.
  • At least six months of dental assisting experience is preferred.
  • Experience with oral surgery, implants, AOX/full arch cases, IV sedation, or prosthodontic procedures is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, charting, and filing.
  • Preparing patient charts, recording treatment plans, and updating dental records.
  • Operating X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and developing radiographs for diagnostic purposes.
  • Preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments, materials, and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
  • Assisting the surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration, and cleanup.
  • Assisting in advanced surgical procedures including full arch implant surgeries, extractions, bone grafting, and implant placement.
  • Preparing patients for surgery and monitoring vital signs during procedures.
  • Providing patients with information on oral health care, treatment plans, and postoperative outcomes.
  • Monitoring our stock of surgical supplies and medication and replenishing these, as needed.
  • Ensuring that instruments and equipment are effectively maintained.
  • Providing excellent patient care at all times.
  • Maintaining a professional, positive, and team-oriented attitude in a fast-paced surgical environment.
