Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid X-ray license is required
  • Knowledge of oral surgery procedures, instruments, and materials
  • Familiarity with infection control protocols and safety measures
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in dental software and computer literacy

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a dental assistant, particularly in Oral Surgery, is highly desirable
  • Discharge experience is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Discharge and Continue Care for Patients: The discharge assistant will work closely with the surgical team to ensure that patients are prepared for discharge and equipped with the necessary information and resources for post-operative care.
  • Serve as a liaison between in-patient care and follow-up care.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients prior to discharge to ensure their readiness to leave the facility.
  • Monitor patients for any signs of complications or adverse reactions to medications and intervene as necessary.
  • Quick to respond in an emergency – understand all materials in crash cart and efficient in emergency protocol.
  • Ensure that quality of care is maintained or surpassed.
  • Provide post-operative care instructions to patients, including oral hygiene practices, medication administration, and dietary restrictions
  • Answer patients’ questions and concerns, offering reassurance and empathy throughout their treatment process
  • Educate patients about oral health, prevention methods, and the importance of regular dental visits
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting treatment plans, procedures, and progress
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other dental staff to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Manage patient records, update medical histories, and handle billing and insurance documentation
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering dental supplies, and maintaining equipment
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned
