About The Position

The Surgical Clinical Assistant (SCA) provides assistance to the Physician and Physician's Assistant with daily administrative and clinical duties. Responsibilities include assisting with post-op suture and staple removal, post-op wound care, pre-admissions testing orders, responding to patient calls and messages, and more. Key Accountabilities: Increase patient satisfaction, compliance with schedule prep, voicemail, compliance with policies and procedures, decrease wait times.

Requirements

  • Must have active, valid BOC certification
  • Must have active, valid NJ ATC licensure by start of employment
  • Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy required
  • Experience (professional or clinical rotations) working hands-on with patients required
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients in the waiting room and escorts them to the exam room.
  • Directs patient to surgery scheduling and/or front desk for checkout.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness, and inventory in the exam room, and prepares exam room for patients to enter.
  • Cleans and autoclaves instruments.
  • Provides and scans proper paperwork to the chart for Physician's review.
  • Records vitals as per Physician's request.
  • Prepares injections for the Physician.
  • Pulls up x-rays, MRI's, CT's, and various studies pertaining to the patient's exam.
  • Assists patient with clothing when necessary.
  • Disposes of bio hazardous waste and sharps according to OSHA regulation, and replaces sharps containers when existing containers are full.
  • Answers telephones in patient areas and provides voicemail coverage for Physician.
  • Requests reports for various facilities for Physicians.
  • Empties and restocks laundry.
  • Scans appointment tracking to identify when patients are ready to be seen by the Physician and directs Physician in patient appointment order.
  • Reviews Physician schedules for chart preparation including ensuring operative reports, dictations, and studies are present in the chart.
  • Completes pre-certifications for MRI's and other Physician orders as necessary.
  • Send Visco Injection authorization request to supplement pre-certification representative.
  • Scans information into patient record (including all Physician orders, prescriptions, etc. on the date of service).
  • Covers other areas in the office when not assigned to a Physician.
  • Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested.
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
