About The Position

The Surgical Attendant is responsible for transporting patients to designated areas, assisting with patient positioning in the operating room, and responding to transport requests in a timely manner. This role also involves transporting and cleaning equipment, assisting with room turnovers, cleaning surgical suites, and restocking assigned units. The attendant must adhere to hospital policies, maintain patient confidentiality, and foster a cooperative work environment while applying customer service and continuous quality improvement principles.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent.
  • One (1) year experience in a hospital setting.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to transport patients meeting patient comfort and safety requirements.
  • Ability to assist in moving and positioning patients in the operating room.
  • Ability to respond to requests for transports in a timely manner.
  • Ability to transport and clean equipment.
  • Ability to handle and operate equipment properly and carefully.
  • Knowledge of terminal cleaning, high-level disinfection, and environmental control standards.
  • Ability to assist in room turnovers.
  • Ability to clean surgical suites.
  • Ability to check stock levels and restock assigned units.
  • Ability to utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
  • Adherence to all Hospital Policies and Procedures, including Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct, Corporate Compliance, Diversity, and Confidentiality.
  • Application of customer service and continuous quality improvement principles.
  • Maintenance of confidentiality regarding patient care, personnel, and strategic issues.
  • Maintenance of positive working relationships and a cooperative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients to designated areas meeting patient comfort and safety requirements.
  • Assists in moving and positioning patients in the operating room under the direction of the RN or MD.
  • Responds to requests for transports of beds, specimens, etc., in a timely manner.
  • Transports and cleans equipment throughout the operating room.
  • Handles and operates equipment properly and carefully.
  • Initiates work orders if required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of terminal cleaning, high-level disinfection, and environmental control standards by proper method and/or use of cleaning process or agents.
  • Assists in room turnovers to expedite OR utilization.
  • Assists in cleaning surgical suites at the end of the daily schedule ensuring all suites are ready for next day's use.
  • Checks stock levels by sub sterile assignments or cart assignments and restocks assigned units according to established guidelines.
  • Utilizes concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
  • Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures, specifically Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct, Corporate Compliance, Diversity, and Confidentiality.
  • Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day-to-day activities of the position.
  • Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues.
  • Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment.
