About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. The shift is Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm. This position does require call which is once per week, and one weekend every 4-5 weeks. We prefer candidates that have their first assist certification but would be willing to train if not.

Requirements

• Eligibility to sit for the certification of Surgical Assistant exam.
• Current registration through the applicable state board of nursing as a Surgical Technologist while also having current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Nice To Haves

• Candidates who have their first assist certification, but willing to train if not.

Responsibilities

• Assists operating surgeons in carrying out technical surgical procedures in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations.
• Assists operating surgeons with intra-operative procedures like homeostasis, exposure, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that assist the surgeon in carrying out a safe procedure with optimal results for the patient.
• Develops specialized preoperative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members.
• Prepares surgical tools and equipment, takes preventative measures to ensure applicable health and safety regulations are satisfied, and assist with patient positioning when necessary.
• Administers preoperative medications and reports the responses of patients to assigned surgeons and anesthesiologists.
