About The Position

Cardinal Health's Clinical Care Delivery in Surgical Services focuses on providing high-quality, patient-centered care for diagnosing, treating, and managing patient conditions. This role ensures the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the practice. The Surgical Services job family supports patient care during surgical procedures, from pre-operative preparation through post-operative recovery, ensuring safe, effective, and precise surgical care in adherence to safety standards. The Surgical Assistant will support surgeries on Wednesdays at Denali Biomedical in Fairbanks, AK, and may require additional hours on Thursdays for equipment sterilization. This is a part-time role, working every Wednesday and as needed on Thursdays.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of work experience, preferred
  • Previous medical experience, preferred
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • Previous experience as a surgical technician or sterile processor, preferred
  • Certification in surgical technology, preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Available on Wednesdays to assist with surgeries as well as Thursdays to sterilize equipment, as needed

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and organizes operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Restocks supplies, including cleaning and janitorial supplies.
  • Assists with cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation according to ANSI, AAMI, and APIC standards.
  • Assists the surgical team with patient positioning.
  • Assists with transporting patients via wheelchair from the facility.
  • Assists with cleaning and disinfecting the operating room between surgeries and performs terminal cleaning at the end of the day.
  • Removes trash from the facility and disposes of it safely.
  • Assists with laundry tasks, including washing, drying, and folding clothing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.
  • Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Serves and protects the physician and practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
