About The Position

Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, NC is hiring a Surgical Assistant. This is a full-time position on the first shift. The Certified Surgical Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgical team and assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, setting up tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization of the surgical site, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing and closure of incisions, instillation of medications, and application of surgical dressings, splints, and casts. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant uses effective interdisciplinary communication to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

• Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program
• Surgical Assistant license required for appropriate state of practice
• Virginia Surgical Assistant License REQUIRED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification REQUIRED
• No experience required
