About The Position

This full-time position involves assisting in surgical procedures, maintaining sterile fields, preparing the surgical site, retracting tissues as directed, and maintaining the surgical site. The role also includes summoning and preparing patients for office visits and assisting physicians with medical office procedures.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of OR Technology or RN
Two years experience in a surgical environment
CPR certification to be completed within three months of employment
Credentialing with LRMC must be received within three months of employment
Able to take call as required to cover the service

Responsibilities

Follows appropriate aseptic technique as defined by AORN guidelines for the hand scrub.
Initiates corrective action when a break in technique occurs.
Inspects and maintains sterility of supplies and trays.
Protects the integrity of the sterile field.
Assists in gathering all supplies needed for the procedure.
Assists in transferring the patient to the OR table and verifies identity.
Positions patient safely on the table.
Performs the proper surgical scrub on the correct operative site.
Drapes for maximum exposure to the operative site.
Retracts as directed by the physician, maintaining adequate exposure and patient safety.
Provides correct sponging, direct pressure, and clamping.
Operates suction equipment.
Provides cautery as directed, demonstrating correct use to avoid tissue destruction.
Responds appropriately to the needs of the surgeon.
Adheres to the standards of care as outlined by the American Operation Nurses Association.
Summons and prepares patient for office visit.
Assists the physician with medical office procedures.
