About The Position

The Surgical Aide assists with basic patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The role helps ensure optimal patient care and supports the safe and efficient operation of the surgical department by maintaining a clean and sanitized environment, helping prepare and position patients, and supporting operating room readiness and turnover.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or two years of experience in an operating room setting.
• Experience with operating room turnover.
• Knowledge of operating room equipment, beds, and related supplies.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment.
• Ability to recognize concerns and take appropriate action.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple assigned tasks while maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous healthcare experience as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant in an operating room setting.
• Prior housekeeping experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform direct patient care responsibilities as needed under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
• Assist with patient preparation and positioning.
• Support patient transportation, patient positioning, room readiness, and operating room turnover between surgical procedures.
• Clean and sanitize assigned areas to maintain a safe, orderly, and efficient environment.
• Keep shelves stocked with necessary supplies.
• Deliver specimens to the laboratory.
• Retrieve X-rays, patient charts, and other necessary materials.
• Assist with maintaining operating room equipment, beds, and related items.
• Complete assigned tasks promptly and accurately to support the surgical team.
