About The Position

Kindred Heart Animal Hospital is seeking a Surgery Veterinary Technician or Assistant to join their dedicated staff near Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This is a weekday position with no weekends required. Kindred Heart Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital serving Carrboro and Chapel Hill. The original location opened in 2022 and experienced enough growth that in 2023 they opened a second location, 5 miles away, in Governors Village. Their practice is filled with natural light and is fully equipped with in-house labs, digital radiographs, and ultrasound. They have a dedicated dental suite and dental radiographs. The hospital functions as a team. Carrboro and Chapel Hill form the western edge of the Triangle area of North Carolina, which is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States. The area is described as a vibrant and diverse community, full of farmer’s markets, festivals, and concerts.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to always communicate professionally and effectively and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with computers and electronics.
  • Ability to lift patients up to 40lbs throughout the workday with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat
  • At least one year of veterinary experience as an assistant or technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Client communication
  • Triaging patients including basic injury/illness assessment, gathering patient information, and taking vital signs.
  • Performing diagnostic testing including radiographs and lab work
  • Assisting with surgical procedures and patient monitoring
  • Assisting in taking radiographs
  • Giving IV & IM injections
  • Dispensing controlled drugs
  • Placing IV catheters and maintaining feeding tubes and urinary catheters
  • Monitor Surgical procedures.
  • Lab Diagnostics
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
