About The Position

Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty & Emergency (PSVSE) is seeking a Surgery Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced, highly collaborative surgery department. This role is ideal for someone experienced in surgery or eager to learn and grow into it, focusing on delivering gold standard patient care. The assistant will work alongside board-certified surgeons and skilled LVTs to drive surgical flow and support advanced cases. The schedule is typically Sunday-Tuesday, with flexibility required based on caseload, and includes a combination of appointment and surgical case days. The position is key to ensuring surgical cases run smoothly, from preparing the operating room to assisting during procedures. Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of veterinary assistant experience required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take feedback and training

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical experience preferred OR a strong desire to learn and grow in surgery

Responsibilities

  • Assist with surgical case setup, including instrument preparation and OR readiness
  • Maintain surgical suite cleanliness, organization, and sterility
  • Assist in patient preparation for surgery (restraint, positioning, clipping, and cleaning)
  • Scrub in and assist during surgical procedures
  • Support LVTs and surgeons throughout procedures to maintain efficient OR flow
  • Assist with patient monitoring and recovery support as directed
  • Prepare and maintain surgical packs and equipment
  • Ensure proper turnover between cases to keep the schedule running smoothly
  • Collaborate closely with the surgery, ER, and specialty teams
  • Maintain accurate records and support overall department organization
