About The Position

This position involves providing direct patient care in a surgical setting, functioning as a Surgery Tech or LPN. The role requires maintaining a sterile environment, assisting surgeons, anticipating needs, and responding effectively in emergency situations. The individual will be responsible for preparing the surgical suite, assisting with patient preparation and positioning, and ensuring accurate counts of supplies. Additionally, the role may involve circulating nurse duties and requires adherence to safety protocols and organizational values. Continuous education, particularly in orthopedic topics for hip and knee certification, is also a component of this role.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal Operating Room Technician course
  • 1 year previous surgical experience
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
  • Surgery Technician Certification or Oregon LPN license

Responsibilities

  • Scrub surgical procedures
  • Function on an emergency basis
  • Collaborate with physicians
  • Assume Surgical Scrub duties under the direction of the RN, AORN standards: Scrubs, gowns and gloves
  • Maintain sterile environment at all times during set up and procedure
  • Set up table, instruments and supplies according to scheduled operation
  • Assist with the preparation and draping of patient
  • Assist and anticipate the needs of the Surgeon and use of instrumentation, sutures, sponges and supplies
  • Observe patient for changes in physical status and assist with emergency procedures as needed
  • Perform correct sponge, needle and instrument count with the circulating RN according to unit policy
  • Assist the circulating RN in care and labeling of surgical specimens
  • Assist in the application of dressings and casts
  • Assist with cleaning surgical suite after each case
  • Knowledge/safe use of medications on the surgical field
  • May assume circulating nurse duties as assigned, under the direction of the RN
