About The Position

The Surgery Tech III participates as a member of the surgical team under the direct supervision of an RN/Charge Nurse or Clinical Manager. This role functions as a scrub/assist person, assisting the physician and/or RN, and is responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients. The technician is responsible for the maintenance, care of instruments, supplies, and equipment according to manufacturer instructions, infection prevention standards, and institutional policies. They practice appropriate initiation and maintenance of sponge, needle, and miscellaneous item counts, and equipment according to policy. The role involves decontaminating, cleaning, and caring for operating room equipment using clean/sterile technique. The technician identifies, gathers, and prepares instruments, equipment, and specialty items for all procedures in a timely manner according to preference cards, acknowledging the physiologic needs of the patient such as equipment size, maintenance of body temperature, and patient safety. The Surgery Tech III demonstrates and maintains competency as an expert in 3 or more specialties/service lines (e.g., Thoracic, Ortho, Spine, ENT). On-call duty may be required. The Technician III also acts as a preceptor for other staff and students, plays a prominent role in the orientation and cross-training of staff and students, assists in the development of educational programs, and serves as a resource for staff in specialty areas. They assist appropriate clinical resources in developing service line and quality improvement tools.   • May require on call duty.
