About The Position

Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Scrub Tech Education & Quality Lead to join our team! JOB SUMMARY: The Scrub Tech Education and Quality Lead plays a key role in supporting the quality, consistency, and advancement of scrub technician practice within the Surgical Services department. This role serves as a clinical resource, educator, and advocate for scrub technicians, supporting onboarding, competency validation, workflow improvement, and quality initiatives across all surgical specialties. The Scrub Tech Education and Quality Lead collaborates with specialty scrub leads, the department educator, OR charge nurses, CTL, Central Sterile leadership, and surgical services leadership to identify practice gaps, support process improvement, and proactively plan for instrumentation, equipment, and supply needs. This position functions in a collaborative, educational, and quality-focused capacity and does not include direct supervisory or disciplinary authority. Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST or CSFA through NBSTSA preferred).
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Requires 5 years of full time scrub tech experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in precepting, educating, or mentoring peers preferred.
  • Broad knowledge across multiple surgical specialties preferred.
  • Experience in endoscopy assisting and disinfection/sterilization/ preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of standard OR equipment, instrumentation, and surgical workflows.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, tray configurations, and specialty-specific equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of endoscopy/reprocessing, central sterilization equipment knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic Mathematical Skills.
  • Ability to frequently and consistently make sound judgments.
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods to complete assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides informal, non-disciplinary coaching to scrub technicians to reinforce best practices, standard work, and professional OR behaviors
  • Escalates coaching needs or performance concerns requiring formal intervention to department leadership
  • Participates in the interview and selection process for new scrub technician candidates, providing input on skill level and readiness
  • Works closely with the Central Sterile (CS) Supervisor to evaluate instrument needs, tray configurations, and proposed instrument or tray changes
  • Collaborates with the CTL and OR Charge Nurses to proactively review upcoming surgical schedules and identify specialized equipment, trays, or supplies that may be needed
  • Assists in identifying potential equipment, instrumentation, or supply gaps and coordinates planning efforts with appropriate department leaders
  • Supports departmental quality improvement initiatives related to perioperative services and scrub practice
  • Assists with OR policy review and development related to scrub practice, workflows, and quality standards
  • Participates in and provides education during staff meetings as needed
  • Assists department leadership and the department educator with additional projects or duties as directed
  • Participates in daily huddles or operational discussions as needed to support safe and efficient surgical care
