About The Position

This position involves working closely with patients, as well as the doctors who treat them. The role requires reviewing charts, scheduling various types of surgeries, obtaining pre-authorizations, and the ability to take direction and multi-task. The Surgery Scheduler serves as the main resource to the physician for surgery scheduling, works with insurance companies to get prior authorization for patients, and coordinates the admission and transfer of patients. This role also communicates information to patients and families, maintains the physician’s surgical calendar, and completes all surgical forms and sends them to the surgical facility. Additionally, the scheduler sets patients up for preadmission testing, makes postop appointments, and ensures all necessary paperwork for surgery is received by the facility. The position also requires adherence to DCH Standards, including maintaining performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards, as well as performing compliance requirements and adhering to DCH Behavioral Standards. Essential job functions must be performed in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees, including identifying and reducing unsafe practices and recognizing and taking appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards. The role requires the use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet, and adherence to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma/GED required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Previous EMR experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
