About The Position

The Surgery Scheduler supports the Surgery Department by coordinating and organizing surgical procedures, ensuring smooth communication among patients, physicians, and clinical teams. This role is essential in maintaining an efficient surgery schedule and an excellent patient experience across all age groups-from neonates to geriatric patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of related experience or training
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly in person and over the phone.
  • Dependability, professionalism, and the ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn and pursue ongoing professional development.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule surgical procedures and coordinate room availability to maximize efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Communicate effectively with physician offices, anesthesia, radiology, pathology, and other hospital departments.
  • Pre-register/register patients and ensure all necessary case data is accurately completed.
  • Maintain timely, professional, and supportive communication with patients and families.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through polite, professional phone etiquette.
  • Prepare and distribute the daily surgery schedule to appropriate departments.
  • Notify supervisors of late or added cases and assist with specimen transport when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all safety, infection control, and organizational policies.
  • Assist with maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe surgical environment.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, fire drills, and disaster situations.
  • Support team productivity by adjusting workload or schedule as needed based on surgical volume.
