Employment Status: Full-Time Working Hours: 40 hours a week (80 hours per pay period) Shift: 1st shift Position Reports to: Director of Surgical Services Department Description: Wilson Health's Surgical Services Department performs more than 4,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries and other procedures annually in the fields of gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, general surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, urology, podiatry, plastic surgery and endoscopy, as well as radiology interventional procedures. The department is staffed by board-certified surgeons and anesthesiologists, highly skilled registered nurses, surgical technologists, sterile processing technicians, medical assistants and X-ray technologists. Job Summary: The First Assistant provides assistance to a physician or active staff or courtesy staff with surgical privileges. The First Assist practices under the supervision of the surgeon during the intraoperative experience, and collaborates with the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient.
