About The Position

The Surgery Scheduler/Medical Assistant provides planning and service to patients and physicians in order to facilitate the scheduling and performance of surgical procedures. In addition, this position will room and prepare patients to see the surgeon as needed.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
H.S. Diploma/GED
Customer service experience

Responsibilities

Facilitates the scheduling of surgery cases / procedures within a hospital or out-patient surgery center.
May conduct financial discussion with patients regarding fees for surgical procedures and collect surgical deposits, as per departmental guidelines.
Serves as a resource to other staff regarding surgery scheduling functions and participates in training other clinic staff to cover during absences or anticipated vacancies.
Schedules pre-surgical H & P's per policy MS503.
Verifies insurance benefits and communicates information to patients.
Rooms patients including performing and documenting vital signs and preparing patient to see the surgeon, as needed.
Maintains all instruments by following procedures for sterilization to CS and keeping rooms supplied and reviewing for expiration dates.
