About The Position

USPI Texas Precision Surgery Center is seeking a motivated Surgery Scheduler/Insurance Verifier to join our team. We have 2 OR rooms and 1 Treatment room. With outpatient services performed in Ophthalmology. Position requires weekdays only -- no holidays, weekends, or call. Some early mornings and later evenings may be required; schedule subject to change based on surgical schedule and flow of the day.

  • Proficiency in gathering detailed patient information.
  • Experience entering patient information into computer systems.
  • Ability to schedule anesthesia services.
  • Experience verifying patient insurance benefits.
  • Ability to interpret managed care contracts.
  • Skill in determining pre-certification requirements.
  • Ability to review contracts and patient benefits.
  • Skill in determining co-pays.
  • Experience posting insurance and billing comments.
  • Ability to enter information into patient accounting systems.
  • Experience contacting patients regarding payments.
  • Ability to assist patients with credit agreements.
  • Skill in determining patient financial responsibility.
  • Ability to review financial records.
  • Skill in attaching documentation to verification sheets.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Ophthalmology outpatient services.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and schedules surgical and related appointments for doctors.
  • Verifies benefits and eligibility via insurance portals or via phone.
  • Enters patient information and insurance coverage into the patient account system.
  • Communicates with patients on their out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Calls physician offices and insurance carriers to get updates on authorizations and pre-certifications prior to surgical procedures.
  • Maintains master schedule to ensure coordination between doctors, anesthesia, lab and insurance carriers.
  • Schedules surgeries and coordinates schedules between the Surgery Center and doctor's offices.
  • Gathers all detailed information for the patient's chart, such as type of procedure, supplies, special equipment required, insurance information, etc.
  • Enters all patient information in the computer system.
  • Schedules all surgical anesthesia services required according to doctor preference and availability.
  • Verifies patient insurance benefits by contacting insurance companies and interpretation of managed care contracts.
  • Determines pre-certification requirements.
  • Verifies insurance benefits by reviewing our contract and patient’s quoted benefits.
  • Determines co-pay.
  • Posts all insurance and billing comments.
  • Enters all information into the patient accounting system.
  • Contacts patients regarding moneys due prior to the date of surgery.
  • Assists patients with credit agreements (Care Credit).
  • Determines patient responsibility for cash payment based on reimbursement and account reviews.
  • Reviews financial records for correctness.
  • Attaches correct documentation to verification sheets and delivering to appropriate staff.
