About The Position

Surgery Aide performs direct and indirect patient care in the Perioperative setting and assists in the maintenance of a safe, clean environment working under the direction of Charge Nurse (RN) and OR staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS
  • Good analytical and observational problem-solving skills.
  • Mathematical ability to perform calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and, division etc.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies used in the work environment.
  • A high level of interpersonal and verbal skill and teamwork commitment to effectively function as a team member in support of all services delivered on the patient unit and to effectively communicate with patients, their families and other hospital personnel to address customer needs.
  • Good reading, writing and comprehension skills to understand, effectively communicate and contribute to procedures, processes, orders, methods, and standards.
  • Physical ability to regularly (80-90% of work time) walk and stand; lift soiled linens and move equipment as necessary; assist patients in repositioning, bed to stretcher transferring, basic activities of daily living and maintenance locomotion requiring lifting (very heavy 60+ pounds), bending, pulling, pushing, standing, and walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to perform routine clerical functions such as answering telephones, taking messages and basic retrieval of computer information.
  • Demonstrates willingness to make a meaningful contribution to the work environment as evidenced through behavior and attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Performs terminal cleaning of the operating room and prepares rooms for new patients.
  • Cleans and re-makes patient stretchers and beds, and responsible for assigned areas for restocking and cleanliness.
  • Participates in OR suite turnovers between cases.
  • Delivers specimens, labs, blood, to and from OR.
  • Transport patients as directed by a nurse.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required per policy.
  • All duties as assigned
