About The Position

The Fairview Surgical Technologist Learner performs related tasks and responsibilities of a Surgical Technologist while studying toward a Surgical Technologist Degree. Work is guided and overseen by an operating room Supervisor/Educator. The Surgical Technologist Learner is responsible for adhering to all surgical safety standards, policies, procedures, and practice guidelines while promoting teamwork with all members of the health care team. The Surgical Technologist is expected to complete mandatory rotations with Surgical NAs, Sterile Processing techs, Case Cart aides, and Perioperative Circulating RNs. Upon successful completion of the Surgical Technologist Learner program, the expectation is to hire our learners into a Surgical Technologist position at the site you worked as a Surgical Technologist Learner. Learners work a .4 FTE (32 hours per two-week pay period) at the selected hospital (Maplewood, MN) and must be entering their final collegiate year in their respective program (Entering segment 3 for Saint Paul College, Entering their final year at Rasmussen & entering Semester 4 for Anoka Tech students). After receiving a Surg Tech Learner offer, the role will pay $25.00/hour. Upon completion of the Surgical Technologist Learner Program, the expectation is you are hired into a surg tech position at your learner Site. Candidates are expected to pursue a Surgical Technologist position with Fairview and remain in the role for approximately one year after their orientation ends. St. John’s OR has 8 Operating Rooms with supporting Preop and Postop department adjacent. It is a Robotic Center of Excellence as well as Bariatric Center of Excellence with General, Urology, GYN and Oncology being the largest Volume of Robotic cases. Surgeries in this Unit include: Open Heart, complex and simple Neuro-spine, General, GYN, Colorectal, Plastics, ENT, Oral, Urology, Vascular, GI, and Ortho trauma. Cardiac Cath lab and Hybrid room adjacent to the OR. Future plans for facility expansion.

Requirements

  • Must be entering their final collegiate year in their respective program (Entering segment 3 for Saint Paul College, Entering their final year at Rasmussen & entering Semester 4 for Anoka Tech students).
