About The Position

This PRN (as needed) position involves working day shifts as a Surgical Tech First Assist. Responsibilities include functioning as a first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures, assisting OR staff, and potentially serving as a scrub tech. The role requires maintaining the sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. This position includes one weekend of call per month (Saturday/Sunday, 24 hours) and the opportunity to pick up weeknight call shifts (1615-0700) 2-3 times a month.

Requirements

• Graduate from a surgical technologist program.
• Completion of didactic and clinical components of the First Assistant program or competency verified by a sponsoring Piedmont surgeon during the orientation period.
• Three years perioperative services experience.
• Certified surgical technologist (CST).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

• Certified surgical assistant (CSA), Certified surgical first assistant (CSFA), Surgical assistant, certified, (SA-C) or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures in accordance with credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification.
• Assists OR staff in the assigned room/case.
• Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment in the role of scrub tech.
• Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.
