About The Position

The Texas Water Company is actively seeking talented, driven and highly-productive applicants for the position of Surface Water Treatment Operator II to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for operating and maintaining water treatment facilities to ensure the consistent production of high-quality potable water. This role involves performing process control testing, maintaining operational records, conducting preventive maintenance, and safely handling treatment chemicals and equipment. This role also operates forklifts and other machinery, coordinates special projects, and contributes to process improvements. With a strong focus on safety and compliance, this position requires independent problem-solving, mechanical aptitude, and collaboration skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Holds valid Class C Water Treatment Operator License.
  • Demonstrated experience with water distribution systems and surface water operations.
  • Holds relevant certifications required for the team’s need or directed by management.
  • Proficiency in respirator use.
  • Proven mechanical abilities.
  • Familiarity with general office software.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently, including problem analysis and solving.
  • Ability to participate in physical activities including lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions, as well as using heavy weight tools and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Completes daily production and chemical usage records and calculations.
  • Performs laboratory tests for plant process control.
  • Backwashes filters, maintains plant operation records, and periodically checks chemical feed and process control equipment.
  • Prepares treatment chemicals and loads feeder hoppers and day tanks.
  • Receives, stores, and takes inventory of plant chemicals and materials.
  • Operates forklifts and other machinery.
  • Performs assigned plant preventive maintenance, structure maintenance, and equipment repair.
  • Completes equipment maintenance and repair records, including work orders.
  • Maintains operational documentation, including daily logs, flow settings, unit inspections, chemical dosages and chemical residuals.
  • Periodically tests all emergency equipment.
  • Performs assigned plant housekeeping, janitorial, and painting duties.
  • Successfully responds independently to emergency incidents, including all routine and most non-routine situations.
  • Provides input on process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Trains junior staff members on routine work and operations.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
  • Participates in standby rotation and work on weekends and holidays as needed.
