This is an excepted service position for current Military members of the Iowa Army National Guard. The Surface Maintenance Repairer performs limited diagnosis, routine repairs, and maintenance on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. They assist higher-graded mechanics in the repair and overhaul of major systems, perform routine repairs by adjusting or replacing parts, and work in accordance with technical manuals and regulations. The role involves limited diagnosis using visual and auditory checks and basic test equipment, determining when parts need cleaning, adjustment, or replacement, and performing these tasks independently in remote locations. Guidance is received for non-routine and complex repairs. Field maintenance may be provided at unit locations, including recovery and evacuation of inoperable vehicles. The position also includes conducting readiness and repair inspections, performing Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), and ensuring proper servicing of vehicles and equipment. Limited repairs on basic communication equipment, minor body and fender work, and repairs to small arms and accessory equipment are also part of the duties. Additionally, the role may involve maintaining supply documentation and managing the receipt, storage, issuance, and inventory of tools and parts. Other duties as assigned.
