About The Position

PETRONAS Canada is seeking an experienced Surface Landman to support stakeholder engagement for successful permitting of development activities and the ongoing management of land access and landowner relationships across existing operations. This role is based in Calgary, AB or Fort St. John, BC, and reports to the Manager, Regulatory and Land. The company is a significant natural gas resource owner in Canada, involved in the Montney play and a partner in LNG Canada, with a global energy group presence. Requirements

  • Valid Permanent Land Agents license
  • Minimum of 7 years as a Surface Land Agent in the petroleum industry
  • Practical experience conducting surface land activities in the province of BC
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent)
  • Strong working knowledge of British Columbia regulations
  • Exceptional relationship-building capabilities and a collaborative working style
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in CS Explorer and related land management systems
  • Ability and willingness to travel to the field as required

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education in a land-related discipline is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the Regulatory and Land Team with technical support towards Crown and freehold surface land acquisition.
  • Support Access and lease agreement activities.
  • Respond to stakeholder requests.
  • Prepare and review relevant land documents.
  • Negotiate agreements, landowner compensation, rents, conditions and damages.
  • Coordinate notifications, respond to written submissions and objections.
  • Monitor project activity and status across internal stakeholder groups such as Drilling, Construction, Facilities, Production, Water, Indigenous Relations and Environment to support work schedules and budgets.
  • Identify and communicate potential delays and impacts to project delivery timelines, and prepare project status reports for Manager and internal stakeholder review.
  • Support internal stakeholders by providing advice on Surface Land projects, responding to requests and inquiries, and reviewing land permitting packages.
  • Evaluate and amend outstanding deficiencies to meet regulatory and/or legal requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance surface land processes and practices by researching industry best practices and emerging trends, and by providing recommendations and initiating process improvements to support negotiation management activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support surface land acquisition and access, communication, issue resolution, and process improvement.
  • Represent PETRONAS externally by cultivating strong relationships with industry associations, regulators, and peers, and by monitoring industry trends, regulatory changes, land values, and land management best practices.
