About The Position

The Surface HD Mechanic's primary responsibility will focus on repairing, troubleshooting, adjusting, overhauling, and maintaining mobile heavy-duty equipment. The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world. It comprises 242 square kilometers (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce ~3 million ounces of silver in 2026. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Requirements

  • CVIP certificate required or able to obtain.
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic or Highway Truck Red Seal Certification preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a remote camp environment.
  • Electrical, hydraulic, engine and power train proficiency.
  • Physically fit to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pre-Employment Testing (drug & alcohol, blood lead, and audiogram)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract

Responsibilities

  • Ability to safely maintain, troubleshoot and repair on and off-road, heavy-duty equipment including but not limited to, haul trucks, highway tractors, trailers, loaders, dozers, graders, etc.
  • Test repaired equipment and maintain proper performance.
  • Work with mobile planners to ensure work orders are completed with detail and found work can be planned and scheduled.
  • Ordering and maintaining inventory.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Help to promote a strong environmental culture, promoting and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.
  • Help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.

  • Assisting in the resolution of health and safety matters in a positive and timely manner.
  • Using and maintaining PPE.

  • Assisting Management by supporting change to achieve desired targets.
  • Ensuring that plant and equipment operate within their safe working limits.
  • Ensuring that correct equipment is used for the job.
  • Participating in risk assessment methodology.
  • Participating in safety initiatives.
  • Receiving training and instruction as required.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards
