About The Position

The Laboratory Specimen Processing Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day administration of inpatient and outpatient laboratory activities in support of organizational goals. The Supervisor coordinates laboratory testing activities, ensuring that the work completed meets clinical and productivity standards. This position ensures the proper uses of resources, budget/financial acumen, participates in the purchasing processes, collaborates with physicians and staff, and monitors staff scheduling and assessment and appropriate writing of collection requirement SOPs. The Supervisor must possess a strong phlebotomy and specimen collection teaching ability to both lab staff and non-lab staff, excellent customer service and communication skills. The Supervisor develops operational and procedural plans for the laboratory. The Laboratory Specimen Processing Supervisor provides leadership for effective quality assurance programs and ensures that laboratory activities meet regulatory requirements. The Laboratory Specimen Processing Supervisor will rotate on-call with other leaders to maintain operations and adequate staffing levels. This position will oversee lab staff in all pre-analytical areas of the laboratory locations. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemical, physical biological sciences or healthcare administration/management required from 12 months of hire date.
  • Phlebotomy Technician, PBT ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) eligible or equivalent and required from 24 months of hire date.
  • Minimum 5-7 years phlebotomy experience required.
  • At least 4 years of experience within a hospital setting preferably within a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 60-90 days from date of hire.
  • Requires 24 hours continued education yearly.
  • Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
  • Strict compliance with laboratory Fraud and Abuse policies and requirements is an employment condition.
