About The Position

Responsible for supervising the programs and activities of Communication & Control Systems personnel engaged in overseeing telecommunications system maintenance for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Ways, Structures & Amenities Division.

Requirements

  • Associates degree from an accredited college, university or technical institute in Business Administration, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Rail Technology, or other related technical fields.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the telecommunications or electronics maintenance and repair industry, or related field to include two (2) years of experience supervising the work of support staff and/or subordinate staff in telecommunications maintenance or related electronics maintenance field or four (4) years in a lead communications position.
  • Knowledge of coaxial and fiber optics transmission systems, FM transceivers and repeaters, RF amplifiers, microwave and antenna systems, intrusion detection and alarming systems remote terminal units (RTU), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Local Area Networks (LAN).
  • Must obtain and maintain certifications in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
  • Must possess an FCC General Radio-telephone Operators License (GROL) or, be able to attain a GROL within one year of being selected as a Supervisor.
  • Must have, at a minimum, valid Texas Class C Drivers License; no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties related to technical area of assignment; responsible for highly complex maintenance projects, and acts as COTR; develops cost estimates, schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee; coordinate and direct personnel engaged in telecommunication system maintenance activities including servicing, testing and modification of equipment.
  • Conduct training for subordinates on job-related tasks.
  • Develop and implement effective solutions for operational faults of communication systems and components; recommend upgrade and migration paths for obsolete systems.
  • Review technical documents, drawings and diagrams pertaining to proposed and emerging telecommunication systems; verify system configurations.
  • Analyze computerized maintenance management and reports data and recommend effective solutions to adverse trends according to current industry trends, technology, and methods.
  • Monitor and record budget allocations used for, tools materials, and supplies.
  • Assist with the troubleshooting and repairs of; systems, components, assemblies, and responds to emergency calls, seven days/week.
  • Monitor and log test records, work orders, and associated documentation in the computerized, maintenance database system.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
